What You Can Do

We treat our unwanted clothes and shoes as rubbish? this has to change. Recycling with any clothing recycler is the sustainable alternative to disposal.

Enormous quantities of natural resources are required during the production of our clothes and shoes. Here are just a few examples:

  • The production of a pair of cotton jeans requires over 6,000 litres of water – the equivalent of filling over 45 bathtubs.

  • The production of cotton uses about 10% of the global pesticides and 25% of the global of insecticides.

  • Just over 1 hectares of farmland is needed to produce a single tonne of cotton.

The UK consumes around 1.1 million tonnes of clothes per year and, around 1 million tonnes of clothing are thrown away every year in the UK. Nearly half of it ends up on landfill – that is equivalent to about 2.5 billion t-shirts.

If we throw unwanted clothing and shoes into the rubbish, it could end up being burned or sent to landfill, and all the raw materials that went into making them in the first place are lost forever.

Recycling gives our clothes and shoes repurposes these resources, either as secondhand clothes or as secondary raw materials for the car industry, building industry or textile industry.

The average UK home owns about £4,500 worth of clothes and about 33% hasn’t been worn in the last year? And that we throwaway 350,000 tonnes of used clothing every year – that’s equivalent to the weight of more than 1,250 Airbus A380 planes

To reduce the impact of clothing consumption on the environment

  1. Buy fewer clothes and shoes and buy higher quality, which should last longer

  2. Wear our clothes and shoes for longer

  3. Repair them, Alter them

  4. When we dispose of our clothes and shoes, take them to our nearest clothes collection bank rather than putting into our dustbins.

with your help and Clothing Recyclers will ensures that everything collected  will be treated in a suitable way in order to save our global resources and help the environment.
